Practical SEN support for families and schools

Clearer routes through SEN.

When the system feels complicated, the next step should not. SBK SEN Consulting helps families and schools understand what is happening, gather the right evidence and move forward with a practical plan.

How we can help

Four kinds of support. One clear front door.

Most situations do not fit neatly into one box. These services are designed to join up around the child, family and school rather than make you navigate another complicated system.

01 Plans & process

EHCP & plan support

Practical support from the first question about an EHCP through assessment, plan drafting, annual review, amendments and preparation for tribunal where needed.

  • Working out what evidence is missing
  • Making needs and provision clearer
  • Preparing for meetings and reviews
  • Helping families understand what happens next
Where specialist legal advice or representation is needed, we will say so clearly.
02 Family support

Family guidance & mentoring

Support and mentoring for parents and young people around diagnosis, exams, transitions and the moments when everyday life or school suddenly becomes harder.

  • Pre- and post-diagnosis conversations
  • Preparing for important school transitions
  • Exam pressure and reasonable support
  • DLA applications for under-16s and PIP support from 16
The aim is clarity and preparation: understanding the situation, the evidence and the next practical step.
03 Schools

Practical SEN support for schools

Coaching and hands-on support for teachers, SENCOs and leaders managing increasingly complex SEN needs in ordinary classrooms.

  • Teacher coaching around live classroom challenges
  • Adapting support without lowering expectations
  • Reducing avoidable pressure on pupils and staff
  • Helping school responses become more consistent
The goal is not another policy. It is making day-to-day practice work better.
04 When things break down

Repair & Return planning

For situations where a pupil is repeatedly removed, refusing school, on a reduced timetable, excluded, shut down or struggling to reintegrate after things have gone wrong.

  • Agreeing what happens before the return
  • Identifying a trusted adult and clear ownership
  • Working out what needs to change around the pupil
  • Planning what happens if the first step does not work
After things go wrong, everyone should know what happens next.
Start here

We begin with the situation, not the paperwork.

You do not need to arrive knowing the right terminology, the right process or even what you should be asking for. The first job is to understand what is happening and what matters most.

1
Tell the storyWhat is happening now, what has already been tried and where the pressure is building.
2
Clarify the pictureSeparate the urgent issues from the noise, identify missing information and make sense of the evidence.
3
Agree the next stepLeave with a practical route forward, the right questions to ask and clarity about who needs to do what.
4
Review and repairIf the first plan does not work, learn from it, adjust it and keep moving.
Two sides of the same system

Support for families. Support for schools.

Children do better when the adults around them can understand the same problem, share useful information and work towards a realistic plan.

For families

When you are worried about your child, every form, meeting and decision can start to feel high-stakes. SBK helps you prepare, understand the process and make your child's needs easier for other people to see.

“Start here. We’ll help you work out what matters next.”

For schools

Schools are carrying more complex need inside already pressured classrooms. SBK brings practical SEN experience into the problem: supporting staff, improving responses and helping pupils stay connected to learning wherever possible.

“High expectations. Better routes. Less blame.”
About SBK

Experienced SEN practice, explained in plain English.

SBK SEN Consulting is led by Sarah, an experienced SENCO who has worked alongside children, families, teachers and schools. The consultancy is built around a simple idea: people cope better with difficult SEN situations when they can understand what is happening, what the evidence says and what they can practically do next.

That means listening before advising, avoiding blame, being clear about the limits of what one person or one plan can achieve, and staying focused on usable changes rather than jargon.

Human firstEspecially when families are anxious or overwhelmed.
Evidence-informedUse what is known, and be honest about what is not.
PracticalEvery conversation should create a clearer next step.
Joined-upChild, family and school are parts of the same picture.

Not sure where to start?

That is exactly what the first conversation is for. Tell Sarah a little about what is happening and SBK can help you decide whether it is something the consultancy can usefully support.

Initial conversations are straightforward and human. A short message about what is happening is enough to begin. You do not need to diagnose the problem or choose the right service first.
